The process of making a geometric art piece

The geometric art I make is based on traditional geometric principles taught by Mr. M. Aljanabi. This means that the geometric drawing is made in a square or rectangle and that specific rules of symmetry are observed. The initial drawing is only a quarter of the whole design, which means that the drawing needs to be tessellated (copied) three times to arrive at the full design. These patterns can be endlessly repeated, contrary to some other methods in use today. All patterns are made solely by connecting lines, circles and arcs which are dynamically related. The final pattern 'hides' among the construction lines.

The entire process is done by hand. This may give some inconsistencies as opposed to computer-generated geometric art, but I agree with my teacher that by 'by drawing by hand, the drawing has life in it.'

There are three main categories of patterns depending on the number of sections that a 90 degree angle is divided into, namely in 4, 5, or 6. Each of these systems require their own knowledge base.

Geometric art is sometimes embellished with biomorphic art. This is also called arabesque decoration or illumination. This type of art is also guided by strict rules, including geometric considerations.
